At Iconic Steps, we’ve seen firsthand the incredible impact housing associations can have when they partner with a social enterprise like ours to empower talented young people.
Our recent collaboration with Clarion Housing Group, celebrating their 125th anniversary, brought our filmmaking programme to residents in Penge and Halton Moor, Leeds. Through hands-on sessions led by industry professionals, participants developed skills across the filmmaking process, from generating ideas and planning to camera work, sound, and promotion. They also explored documentary styles and social media strategies, gaining practical experience and confidence while opening up new pathways into creative careers.
A Clarion resident, Cam Norford, shared:
“When I heard about the film school, jumped at the chance to take part as I could see how it could help me promote my business – I really enjoyed it and have learned lots, as well as having fun.”
This hands-on experience gave participants an authentic insight into the creative industry. It not only equipped them with valuable technical skills but also boosted confidence and broadened their understanding of creative career pathways.
But our work with Clarion didn’t stop there. Residents were further supported through 12 months of ongoing support, employability coaching and guidance, as well as valuable industry insight sessions to help build their confidence, skills and career perspectives.
Since completing the course, Daniel states, “I’ve managed to gain paid experience working on two production sets, which helped me decide to focus on becoming a Digital Imaging Technician…Iconic Steps have been extremely helpful, offering one-to-one career support; my confidence has grown significantly as a result.”
These programmes show the powerful impact that can happen when housing associations and Iconic Steps come together. We don’t just provide access, we help young people and residents from underrepresented communities unlock their potential and see themselves as part of the creative future. Housing associations are uniquely positioned to be catalysts for change.
By partnering with Iconic Steps, they can expand their impact beyond housing becoming champions of opportunity, creativity, and social mobility.
Together, we can make a lasting difference.
