In 2021, Lambeth Council identified that there was a slow uptake in the Covid-19 vaccine amongst young people of the Black, Asian and Multi-ethnic community in Lambeth.

They wanted to create content that provided factual information, cleared up rumours and myths and help this demographic make more informed decisions around getting the vaccine.

Our first point of call was to involve our young people in a focus group to understand their concerns regarding the vaccine. Secondly, we needed to know the type of content they’d engage with, so as to ensure reach and impact.

We discovered that the demographic didn’t want to see a video of experts around a table spewing out information, they felt those types of videos were overtly trying to sway people’s decision making and often fuelled by government organizations. Instead, they wanted something to capture their attention in a fun way, while learning reputable information.

The result was that we came up with a game show, where we took to the streets to ask participants true or false questions around the vaccine with cash prize incentives.

We were surprised by the willingness of the demographic to participate and we were able to uncover new insights of the concerns they were having surrounding the vaccine. We were able to deliver an entertaining and informative piece for distribution across social platforms and reap engagement from the desired demographic.

The uptake of the vaccine in the demographic in Lambeth was affected in positive ways through the communication.
