Iconic Steps takes a Thrilling tour through BBC Studios!

The Iconic Steps Alumni had a blast visiting the legendary BBC television centre! They started by entering the bustling world of TV broadcasting with an exciting BBC studio works tour. The sound and light room blew their minds as they saw the intricate magic that brings TV to life. They even got to grill the sound and light director with all their burning questions, feeling like true insiders. And guess what? They even caught a sneak peek of the sets for “Good Morning Britain” and “Lorraine” – talk about starstruck! 

The fun didn’t stop there! They were treated to an engaging talk by the awesome Catriona McNeish from the young talent works department. She shared insight on how to management for children’s programs, sharing the secrets behind the scenes. Marketing, producing, researching, directing – the Alumni got a crash course in everything it takes to create captivating TV for young viewers.  

Alumni Archie Nicholson explained that the tour was “a step in the right direction for young people, just to be in the building, gives a chance and opportunity.” 

Victoria Barber who helped organise the tour said –

“It was great to meet the young people from Iconic Steps. They were enthusiastic, engaged, and asked some excellent questions to our guest speakers. 

I hope the day was a useful insight into opportunities across TV development and production, as it’s so important to demystify access to the industry for the next generation of talent.”

 

 

The Alumni was also given a super valuable CV workshop. They got their CVs viewed and were provided with feedback. They also dished out advice on transferrable skills and experiences that would make their resumes shine. The Alumni left feeling confident and ready to conquer the job market! 

The BBC visit was also about making connections too that could open doors in the future. Alumni Olivia, dreams of getting into presenting and was directed straight to BBC young talent networks. Able to network with BBC staff, the creative atmosphere of the BBC has fuelled Alumni’s inspiration and broadened the Alumni’s understanding of the media world.
