At Iconic Steps, we connect our trainees with companies leading the way in the creative industries. Iconic Steps hosted an industry insight session with Studio Lambert, a fast-growing independent company who are known for making innovative and popular unscripted shows, including award-winning global hits Undercover Boss and Gogglebox.
The sessions are aimed at empowering Iconic Steps Alumni as an inclusive space to share soft skills and knowledge of the media industry. Senior Talent coordinator at Studio Lambert, Maisie Clater led the session on ‘How to be a TV runner’ giving insights into one of the vital roles in making a production and a chance for Iconic Steps Alumni to hear from a successful production company.
Before joining Iconic Steps, Alumni Linda Musoke had been waitressing and felt ‘she was having a stressful time finding runner opportunities, struggling with self-doubt and questioning whether it was the right industry for her’.
Linda expressed that she “faced some challenges as the Film and TV industry is heavily based on who you know and she did not know anyone in the industry.” ‘Eager to learn more and meet people in the industry,’ Iconic Steps was a place where she could thrive and network with like-minded people during the 5-day Documentary Filmmaking course.
Then in the Studio Lambert session, Linda voiced how much she valued learning practical skills such as ‘emphasizing your transferable skills to get your cv in the best shape it can be and applying and contacting as many people as you can as “you don’t know who could give you your next job.”
‘Office running has been a big learning experience from gaining people skills and being pushed to out of her shell to speak to lots people. She now has an exciting future ahead with plans to become a junior researcher and with long-term goals of becoming a Director!’
Connecting Linda with Studio Lambert, is a great success story of how Iconic Steps provides a space for our young people to gain employment directly from our courses but also how our trainees can use Iconic Steps as a place to connect and network with organisations in the creative industry.
